Marcus on Rinse earlier this month doing a bassline vs funky thing. Involves the bars "I'm on that MDMA! MDMA! MDM, MDM.." and loads of funky that I've acclimatised to and come to love with a great deal more effort that I've had to put into the bassline on this set. Still comprised of those ridiculous melodies that aren't even in a bass register, but they've taken the effervescence out of it and turned it quite screeching and discordant, really piercing sounds that must just resonate right out of laptop speakers or a Nokia, & the MCing's all seaside town postcard rudeness. Who wouldn't want an up North grime?

There's an outside chance I might be going on Saturday, I'll be visiting a mate in Shef who is an absolute addict for bassline. Will report back if I do go. He's been once already and says that they've done a good job - 3 rooms, one playing slightly lighter old-school garage.

I only ever went to one night that was officially branded as Niche, back when it was at the Limit around 4 years ago just before it closed down. I have never been so intimidated whilst out clubbing as I was in the first hour! It really was rough as fuck. Having said that I ended up having a wicked time by the end of the night and carried on going to Club Vibe infrequently when all the DJs and clientele migrated there.
