Anyone got any recommendations on portable turntables - ie amp built in, and possibly running on batteries as well (although with a mains option).

Playing at about 6-7 festivals this summer and fancy having a turntable back at our Canvas Palace Of Delights.

this one looks ok http://www.amazon.co.uk/Numark-PT01USB-Portable-USB-Turntable/dp/B001ECQ6PG/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1275914446&sr=1-10

I'd rather have some cute vintage Dansette style jobby, but decent ones seem to come in at twice the cost of the Numark (around 150 or so).

Any recommendations received gratefully

I've got the Columbia one which came out in the eighties or early nineties I think, cost about forty quid off ebay. Think they're a few of them around, my friend has two.
There's a picture here

Pretty nice I think, it runs on batteries and has pitch control and stuff but no mains lead.
The Fisher Price one is good but they're quite collectable, Soundburgers are the one that all the geeks go for.

ah, I figured the Fisher Price ones would just murder your vinyl... I'll check out all of these, cheers.

Various people elsewhere have convinced me that the Numark one I linked to above is total shit. :(

is this the Fisher Price people go for - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-1978-Fisher-Price-Toys-Turntable-Phonograph-845-/350363476917?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item51934a63b5

actually comparatively cheap if it's really quite good..

apparently it's all about the Vestax Handy Trax - http://www.catapult.co.uk/products/DJ%20Equipment/Turntables/Vestax+Handy+Trax+Portable+Turntable

they've been discontinued but you can still pick them up for about a ton. Good sound, really sturdy, good battery life. And you can hang them on a wall and play records sideways on :D

That looks like the decent Fisher Price one.
Some discussion of various types and their merits here

nice one. Seems to echo the idea that the Fisher Price ones are great but the Vestax perhaps more practical..

right. the Vestax arrives today - they've upgraded them to include a USB port now, which isn't that useful (i've got a soundcard with a phonostage anyway) but still..

So, off to Glastonbury on Tuesday, gonna rock the bell tent...

It's definitely all about the Soundburger
