maybe this is why that producer was changing 40 pounds for an ep, as mentioned in the funky thread. seems difficult to make money online otherwise.

It's not like any of this is an either/or (you can do all of the above to maximise your revenue) nor does it measure any kind of ease / likelihood / amount of work required on the part of artist / label / whoever to achieve any of those results.

But, yeah, no money in anything ever at all, seems the general trend. :(

Interesting figures, but not entirely sure they're accurate. Doing some accounting work at the moment for a label and you get higher revenue than that for an itunes album download, don't have the figures on me - but it's around half the sale price for the label and artist - so the figure really depends on the share between label and artist. A self-released album on itunes should bring in a fair bit of dough though

Saw this being discussed on another forum a while back - I think the numbers don't quite stack up, and it's a bit tricky to follow.
Cool info graphic however, re-enforces the need to sell merchandise and other "value added" shit though.
