...he was already one of my heroes for putting out the mfa track 'the difference it makes', with its superpitcher remix on his label Border Community. and also because of his remix of 'the sky was pink' by nathan fake.

but i just got his 'balance 005' mix cd and WOW it's huge. all stirring and epic but pretty and shimmery with it.
prog-house is where it's at. and i never thought i'd say that.

gladly!
i'll do my best but i'm no expert...
James holden is a australian dj/producer that started out as prog-house protege of sasha's. recently, though, he's kind of veered of onto his own, quite distinctive, path, setting up a label in London called Border Community, which specialises in tear jerking tech-house that's often quite romantic and understated. like an london-based counterpart to the recent cologne sounds of Kompakt and Trapez, may be.

here's a link to The Mfa- 'the difference it makes [superpitcher remix]', which is one of my favourite songs ever. it'll make you cry [probably];

and here's a link to nathan fake 'the sky was pink [james holden remix]' which is just beautiful (and also has one of the greatest titles ever);

both were put out on Border Community so they should give you an idea as to whether you like the kind of stuff they're into.

just listened to 'the difference it makes' - it's beautiful. when that churning midrange bit pulls up every few bars its like like breath is being pulled out of your chest. i can only imagine it on a big system.

i've got both of those 12"s (mfa record on kompakt i think)

holden used to be big into prog, but, of late, he's been taking in the click influences.

nathan fake has a good new foot tapper out on traum (i think) .

just to give Border Community their due (and be an irritating pedant), i think they were the original label for the Mfa record, and kompakt licensed it from them.

i'll check out that new nathan fake.

where's he from, btw? anyone know?

someone posted a couple of Britney Spears remixes by him a while back on ilm that were really good. Pretty sure they were by him anyway. I lost them unfortunately but one was a vocal dub mix that was really good. ANybody know what I'm talking about? I think they were for a Breathe On Me single but it got scrapped.

he's djing here on the 16th, looking forward to it...dowloaded a set of his, lotsa superpitcher/ellen allien/blackstrobe/acid-y stuff, which kinda surprised me because i was half-expecting fluffy/dubby prog house

i think it'll be interesting to check him out live

Not that this adds anything to to the conversation, but he's from a neighbouring village, and was a couple of years above me at school. He did an arrangement of Elgar's "Enigma Variations" for the school orchestra when he was about 14. It was well good.

here it is!

britney spears- breathe on me [james holden remix]

i like the bit at the end best when it repeats on and on in a really poignant way.

Hey thanks! There's another more spaced out sounding one I was thinking of specifically, but it's cool to have this one back too.

I like the way the sky was pink has this looping 6 bar phrase which i guees cos it is ishorter than 8 bars makes it seem like it never completes and just keeps pulling you forward through the track. Plus the production is ace.
