2-day workshop with Ryan Jordan (http://ryanjordan.org/) and Jonathan Kemp (http://xxn.org.uk/), followed by an evening of gold drinks and lo-no amp performances.

nohup, 38-40 Upper Clapton Rd, London, E5 8BQ - Fri. May 27th - Sat. 28th 2011

Day One Workshop

//decrystallizing the computational//

Participants will recycle pcb's/IC/pins/connectors for minerals including copper/gold/silver/platinum/palladium using medieval alchemical techniques.

Day Two Workshop

//escaping the pathology of the crystal//

Participants will create raw/renditioned mineral assemblies using piezoelectrics, positive feedback, colloidal dispersions and smelting for intelligence scrolling.

Final day of workshop will be followed by gold drinks and lo-no amp performance from the workshop leaders, participants, Martin Howse (http://www.1010.co.uk/) and Eaten By Children (http://www.myspace.com/eatenbychildren) starting from 8pm until late.

Capacity is limited to 12 participants - Booking is essential - £20 for 2 days (materials incl.)

Participants take part at own risk: workshops include high heat and highly toxic processes - some safety gear provided and experiments conducted outside so gas masks not essential (but please bring mask/goggles/labcoat or similar if you have)

Though this was interesting so forwarded it to a geek m8, this was his response :

>>conducted outside so gas masks not essential

Fucking stupid. A P3 mask would be the absolute minimum, even outside you'll breathe in many nasty chemicals or get them on your skin for later ingestion. Won't catch me there. Go and hire a fume cupboard. You'd be better off melting raw minerals, it'll look the same and won't damage you nearly as much.

and

...probably one of the idiotic "scientific" workshop ideas I've seen. Would have just been funny if it weren't for the stupidly irresponsible safety advice. The only similarity to alchemy is the early death.

How do you transmute gold into gold? Add mercury? Arrrgh. Metal Crystals? Arrrgh. Hippies, at least they won't be around for long.

lol.

Let's Talk About Ceps
Metal crystals is a totally legit concept:

Rest of it does sound a bit wacky, though. :)
