i never listen to instrumentals but this boy is different. i knew about him from the mpc solo stuff and the dipset connection but i was looking at a tumblr that i am assuming must be sick boys this morning and he had two araab instrumentals that are incredible. startd digging into just the instrumentals on youtube and they're really reeally good to listen to. ach! sent me some other one. he loves them too.

i like the epic stadium rock stuff. that comes out a lot on his 'shredding' solo videos.

Sick Boy
19-05-2011, 05:04 AM
If by Sick Boy you mean me, it's not because I still don't know what Tumblr is. I'm assuming that makes it impossible for it to be me - but now I'm not so sure.

Showed some of these vids to a couple of mates when they got posted in the old Hip hop rolling thread. Everyone's jaws just drop when they see him, crazy skills. His mixtape is ace too: http://www.datpiff.com/araabMUZIK-How-To-Be-An-Mc-Araabmuzik-mixtape.123522.html

These are fine to listen to as stand-alones but can anyone point to any good vocal cuts? I'm guessing these beats are pretty hard to ride.

does he have anything released?

weirdly there are no araabmuzik imitators yet (that i know of anyway), compared to say, lex luger who already has tons of people making beats in his style, youtube tutorials on how to replicate his sound palette, etc.

Mov3ment is often very similar. Those 'Dipset Trance Party' (lol) mixtapes have a bunch of araabmuzik-alikes.

Idk the relationship btw araabmuzik and the other producers tho. It could be that one of the lesser known producers influenced the style which he became famous for. I've read suggestions that this was how Lex developed his sound (via Shawty Redd, Southside).. idk how true that is, but it certainly happens a lot in production circles.

either way araab muzik is fucking sick.

thou must not mentionzomby in the same sentence as araabMUZIK

i remember seeing videos of him a few years ago

always wondered why he doesnt tour

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b_VB9Fe7QE

ah yeah sorry.

anyway, i was looking for the first track in this clip. i hope he uses it/has used it, it's one of the craziest things he's done.

daddek
19-05-2011, 04:59 PM
Why are all Araab's beats clipping?

he rides the mpc levels overloud, internal clipping afaik. a lot of ppl are coming to like that distortion in rap recently, they say it sounds street/gheto etc.

wise
19-05-2011, 08:23 PM
my mate does that in his mpc, it sounds shit.
I wanted to remix a tune of his and he gave me this horribly clipped mp3.
keepin it real he called it
yuk

gumdrops
19-05-2011, 10:50 PM
i prefer his mpc workouts to his actual beats tbh

id buy a 'live' album from him

joe.dfx
19-05-2011, 10:55 PM
the clipping gets to be grating on the ears after listening to his stuff for awhile.

it's not "street/keeping it real" no matter how much they want to think it is...

(que chappelle's 'when keeping it real goes to far' clip)

it's just lazy imo.

i like his beats though. just in moderation. reminds of ironsoul stuff (kromestar's better half imo)

luka

what's clipping?

Benny B
20-05-2011, 06:06 AM
what's clipping?

when you have the volume of a digital signal too high, you get digital distortion, which doesn't sound very nice on the ears. In the case of araab musik it dooesn't bother me (I hadn't even noticed) but I can imagine if you were a DJ or a sound-purist it might annoy you.

There is a more thorough, more technical explanation, but that is it in a nutshell i think.

luka
20-05-2011, 06:45 AM
oh, i didnt notice either. maybe if my pc speakers were more expensive. thanks for the explanation.

Damien

was just thinking this

also, IronSoul is one of the best artists to come out of Grime. Period. Had that US G-style mixed with Grime dark violin shit down solid. I miss that orchestral shit I wish Mr Slash would resurface

Been asked to spin some records before Kromestar in Newcastle this weekend and I don't even think I'll bother that's how much I care about that stuff. Shame

no talk of the (amazing!) new album? feels good listening to trance again without losing too much underground cred. :p

ye

was pretty dull. kinda think any live act that is about watching them is like that tho, like those DMC wankfests. didnt help that he played loads of wobbly dubstep.

still love his music mind

yeah i was involved in the brighton thread of the tour - his set was pretty dull here too - loads of cack dubstep, sweet shop etc. so not even wobbly, just mid range wank.

did get to take him out to nando's tho, which has gotta be worth something (most surreal nando's meal ever?)

He mentioned that Dubstep gets a good reaction in his sets.

Its a shame, Id rather hear his Heatmakers 2.0 over any improved dubstep stuff he could do. There is a video on youtube somewhere.

looks like I didnt miss out on much then. Lucky

Chicken wrap... Not all right with me, Nando's has gotta be a half chicken or a chicken burger ting right?

Depends on the heat level, anything less than Medium is a weak effort.

Nandos is a par, I can get me a whole grilled chicken, chips and a drink in Harrow for just shy of 7 shots.
