My first memory of Gil Scott-Heron was "the first thing I wanna say is mandate my ass", such a powerful opening
boom, yet the song itself is a brilliantly witty and subtle dissection of Reagan and the 'hero' complex in American politics (weird how the most powerful country on earth is the one we're consistently told "needs to feel good about itself").
Second time was when Channel 4 made (or maybe just screened)
this in its early days, when it still had some sense of its remit. It's brilliant stuff, you should hunt around if you haven't seen it.
