Kompakt

Darned cockwombles.
Doesn't seem to be a thread celebrating this label, and every so often I go back and rediscover how magical it was at its height. Get physical following it was brilliant, but didn't quite touch the 'wish I'd done that'-ness of Kompakt. Pop as fuck.

Repetitive
Always been quite a fan of this one:

This new one by John Tejada is very pleasant as well:

For some reason Kompakt stuff all blurs together for me, I can never remember what any of it is called.

They had a pretty good year in 2010.

Ewan Pearson's mix 'We Are Proud of Our Choices'
Thomas Fehlmann's 'Gute Luft' LP
Walls - s/t LP
and the Superpitcher album had some nice moments, too.

on one hand it is good that a purist label like kompakt seems to be ever opening up their musical horizons to release some quasi-faux-pretendo-middle eastern music.

on the other 99% of street musicians/beggars in Syria are more talented than the yuppie LA couple duo "Rainbow Arabia".

P.S. would have really felt this thread back in 2005.

havne't listened to any later Kompakt yet, so can't comment. For me this is all retro, a period in my life when i was really feeling this stuff (2001-6, perhaps)

(minimal techno) has no groove, no balls

bigup Matias! :D

but those early kompilation series were soooooo killer: Schaffelfieber, Koln... those were the years right before i came to Berlin and got completely fed up (like Matias) with minimal altogether :)

hah, i'm with you 100% on rainbow arabia zhao. but i think their yuppie dilettante-ism is perfect for kompakt's trimmed houseplants/vegetarian chef/hyper-anal (who could ever dance to their stuff now) latter days

of course it would also be pretty horrible if they had signed some random beggars from syria on the strength of their being street beggars from syria...

but anyway, i love the early-mid period. major in making me love dance music. i've actually been putting this one in mixes lately, as a throwback. still great.
