I don't think we've already got one of these, but I thought it might be handy to have a rolling thread for potentially interesting stuff on the telly - I don't read the listings that thoroughly and wouldn't want something like a documentary about young avante-garde alpenhorn players coming into conflict with the yodelling establishment (this really exists) to pass me by,

To which end:

wherein Rich Hall starts channelling the spirit of Jonathan Meades and Mark Kermode to talk fast about the depiction of The South in Hollywood films. Up on iPlayer til the weekend.

good call.

i'm hoping this thread will help me find a graffiti art doc shown on more4 recently.
the bit i saw had wicked old school footage of artists scaling massive buildings in order to tag their work. unable to remember the title :(

great thread idea. i never check listings and dont' pay for a licence cos i dont' watch 'live' tv much, so i rely on other people to mention interesting stuff, of which i'm sure there is plenty squirelled away on bbc4, hbo and the like.

the film thread is a beast, just got some amazing recs from a 2006 poster last night when sifting through it - a parallel tv thread is ace.

top boy is on c4 tomorrow night at ten - looks like another hood drama. should be a few grime cameos in at least.

Who watched Top Boy then? Thought it was pretty average but will probably watch the rest. Found this interesting also, Top Boy gets a mixed reception from Hackney's youth (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/oct/30/top-boy-reviewed-by-hackney-residents-panel?newsfeed=true).

I did like that on the intro bit (the panning shot which turned from day to night) there was a piece of graffiti which said 'SAY NO TO ART FAGS'

it was....ok. typical kind of storyline, alright twists. a bit hollow overall.

that ricky gervais thing last night just seems to prove he should prob retire now. the whole thing basically amounts to 'HAHA small people HAHA'. the funniest bit was liam neeson. but then thats basically like the extra series. maybe he should stick to writing about celebby stuff.

There's a Prince documentary on BBC4 at 9.00. Followed by Purple Rain. and then some 80's black music from the BBC archives.

The second series of The Killing is well worth checking out. Sort of similar to The Wire in that it's expanding it's focus rather than just being a straight-up police and baddies story

the prince docu was cool to see but pretty formulaic really. just your typical bbc4 hagiography, ticking one box after another. the old bbc omnibus docu they did on prince was much better.

i saw the first 2 killing episodes. it seems a bit easier to predict this time i think, but im sure i will be proved totally wrong.

Deal or No Deal

This programme is sick!

There was a good Paul Morely programme on Roy Lichtenstein last week. Made In Chelsea is good. Scrum V is good. BBC4 show old 1970s episodes of TOTP, they're really good. The Professionals on ITV4 is good, not quite really good, just quite good.

Borgen on BBC4 last night was pretty good, if you like political dramas. A bit like The Killing without the murders, ie the political bits with Troels and Buch etc (that's a lazy comparison I know, but there you are)

bit lame, but does anyone like 'the big bang theory'? I think it's the best sitcom in years, although I do like sitcoms, frasier, everybody loves raymond (although the characters wind me up a bit)

New 'Sherlock' on tonight. The Hound Of The Baskervilles Redux.

I basically saw the whole program (so far) over the last few nights and I love it (apart from the second episode, which dragged a bit). Brilliantly directed/written and constantly entertaining.

The Joy of Disco - next week on BBC4 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01cqt72 and mentioned here http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/feb/25/bbc4-the-joy-of-disco ("More revealing, especially for anyone with the slightest interest in dance music's history, is the appearance of Giorgio Moroder"). Set your recorders.

If not in the UK - there's a three hour Kraftwerk documentary available via dangerousminds http://www.dangerousminds.net/comments/electronic_revolution_three_hour_documentary_on_kr aftwerk (you can download the whole thing if you create a vimeo account).

just watched first episode of Dead Set. pretty damn good. reality TV studio as the perfect meridian of capitalism and spectacle... that awesome and chilling thrill of the catastrophic Real penetrating fantasy bubble.

Charlie Brooker's spot on 10 O'Clock Live is just about the best thing on telly right now. His recent stab at the Daily Mail journo's 'I'm too beautiful' fiasco was classic.

Watched a classic Alan Partridge last night; the one where he meets his no.1 fan - reminded me of how great that series was.

New series of Dallas starting tomorrow.

Did anyone watch Dates on Channel 4? More mainstream than what is usually discussed here (OK, I've only just seen Craner's Dallas post above), but in its own way fabulously weird and overwrought. Some of the acting was shocking, but it somehow didn't seem to matter. Oddly hypnotic. (Note: Please don't tell me what happened in the last episode, haven't seen it yet)

Luther on BBC on Tuesday was a good solid crime drama, featuring Stringer Bell as the title character. Didn't watch the first two seasons but the third one has gotten off to a decent start

The Americans on ITV on Saturday is also worth a watch if you like cold war spy dramas
