For those of you unaware, we've been doing ambient shows in a different city around the world, every year for the last seven years.

With this second release in our series of compilations showcasing our Pan Ambient events (the first being the Pan Ambient Bento), we returned to Vancouver and focused on the participants of the Pan Ambient Dim Sum, who ask the simple question, what would Wong Kar Wai do?

What would he do? Get the participants in this collection to soundtrack his next movie, of course. Or maybe just take us out for shu mai.

Everything in this collection was either recorded live or is based off of music that was performed live at the Pan Ambient Dim Sum, held August 27th, 2011 at Blim in Vancouver.

Hong Kong Soap Opera is the side project of Adrian Yee, guitarist in Vancouver math rockers, The Barcelona Chair. He likes sound. “So Long, Sibelius” is what happens when you mic up a kaleidoscope once owned by John Cage as a small child. We had the opportunity to play with Adrian as part of the Quiet City series last year and found his equal appreciation for My Bloody Valentine and Steve Reich to be a perfect fit for the Pan Ambient Ethos.

Fieldhead is P.Elam. He produces ambient/electronic music that is in many ways as Cascadian a soundtrack as you can get. All shimmering tones and amorphous guitar, “All Boxes” and “Introductions (Blim Remix)” are draw direct lines between The Sight Below and Joy Division and then put it all in a very Vancouver box.

Gunshae is the Pan Ambient project of Kuma and Lady Eve, joined here as a quartet by Shawn Earle on clarinet and Pari Kishi on low end and vocals. “Tony, Maggie and Faye” will appear in a different fashion on Gunshae's next record which will be out later this year. This version, subtitled, "Bristolian Uptown Winds," is the improvised sound of Bristol bass and classicially trained winds

Tomas Jirku has been flying the flag for Canadian techno since the late nineties and also enjoys fishing occasionally. “One Thousand and One Nights” is a different take on the Jirkunian aesthetic, all mystic far off lands gone raving at a distance. Lose yourself in the aether or be grounded by the pulse.

Founder and curator of the Pan Ambient series, "Lotus Land” is Lady Eve's Cascadian anthem, a lush ambient piece reminiscent of cloud-watching on a summer's day, lulled wax poetic while eating poppadums. Joined here by Australian poet Graham Colin, it's an epic that draws the line between Vancouver, Cancun and the stars.

We would also like to thank Rafael Anton Irrisari for his deft touch on mastering and Blim for being our launchpad.

From our minds to your ears and bellies.
