I never really went on the site but I'm curious about how it's perceived...wasn't there quite a big backlash against it when it started?

As far as I've heard it told, it was essentially an attempt by Pitchfork to keep up with all the h-pop-style sub-sub-sub-genres by syndicating a bunch of blogs who were way more up on it than them. Is that a fair assessment?

Sorry, ignorant but curious over here.

you know, i appreciate some of the contributors, and it gave shine to some artists who definitely needed it, but i always really disliked the way it tried to compartmentalize "weird" music, and presumed to represent like ALL of experimental music. it was like some kind of simplified ghetto, it presented challenging acts as just sort of bloggable, easily digestible.
