No Giles Peterson on Radio 1, Skream and Benga given permanent show.

Yeah that's pretty shite, I used to love Gilles Peterson's worldwide show, he got some amazing guests and stuff on. Haven't listened in years but I'd imagine it's still pretty quality. Put me onto loads of good music in my formative years before I had blogs and stuff to mine music from.

You may have to retract your Kode diss Blackdown.
Big look for Skrenga all the same. Still two seriously talented chaps despite some of the recent offerings. Long way from hanging around Big Apple.

Over here one of the longest running leftfield DJs just got the boot after 15 years. Bit strange given he was probably the only DJ that could guarantee an audience in the 12-2am slot week nights but I don't know what bean counter makes these decisions. He was one of the few John Peel type figures on national radio. Only one left now.
More signs of radio becoming less vital

Kissy Sell Out must be the worst name I've ever seen. What do they do.

i posted this in the house 2011 thread re: RA DJ poll/digwood but should be here too:

Judge Jules said: "I’ve had an incredible time over the last 14 years at Radio 1. I’m going to continue DJ’ing and I’m having a bit of a career change - I’m off to become an Entertainment Lawyer at Sheridans."

Are Radio 1 specialist shows going the way of Match of the Day – i.e. don't worry about broadcasting skills, just count on name recognition to lure the punters? (genuine question - I've never heard Toddla, Skream or Benga on the radio and they might be brilliant for all I know. But I do know that, whatever you think of his music, Gilles P knew how to run a show)

Skream is great - Stella Sessions were (are?) class.

I'm sure Gilles Peterson liked some good stuff, but didn't he also like acid jazz and Jamiroquai?

primetime radio might invigorate skream (/benga) still..

still got a couple stella sessions on my hard drive.

I was talking strictly presentational skills. That stuff matters on a two-hour show. GP's interviews were often great.

Its sad to see Gilles Peterson go although I did tend to download the show from that CoreThomas site so maybe I'm partly responsible (I always figured by loading up iPlayer and hitting 'listen again' first it registered as a hit though?).

The BBC must think that Gilles Peterson's listeners will go with him to 6 Music or wherever else I guess. Also as much as GP played new music, I'd enjoy a weekly show by him that was more backward-looking, Benji B had eaten into a lot of his territory as far as new music goes.

It'll be interesting to see who they get to fill the new 'In DJs we Trust' slot. I'd bet that at least one of them will be one of the more popular DJs on Rinse, it'd be great to hear Oneman or Ben UFO on there.

Someone came here before asking what "UKG dj" we'd like to see do an essential mix don't know if anything ever came of it

I find it kind of funny that In New DJs We Trust is something like a 1 hour a week slot in the specialist bit of their schedule. Surely if they actually Trusted In New DJs they'd be on every night?

says gilles is talking to 6 music, which will be a better look for him i think... he would be well suited for that station. hope he doesnt have to change his format too much.
