What would you term this? Future Soul?

I have come across this 2 amazing bands. Sultry sweet, quite dark very spacey and another thing they have in common is very female like vocals and nonsensical lyrics at times. If you know of more similar sounds please post.

So glad that 'future soul' no longer refers to more boring Neo-Soul idiots riding cyber-funk mock-Dillanese production.

Still unsure if these acts make it a real genre.

possibly o/t but just want to register my objection to referring to anything as "future". nothing specific against this particular usage. it's a general objection. aside from that "future blank" is always in perilous danger of veering into coffee table fuzak wank (future jazz, future garage), the whole future usage is totally in line with dance music's desperate search for year zero moments of revelation that trail off endlessly into a golden spiral of diminishing returns. what I'm saying is it always starts off with endless promise of a golden age of open minds, renegade snares clattering away and winds up trying to pinpoint the exact moment when the music turned into one long car commercial. tho that's just one man's opinion.

of course like most everyone else I thought the Weeknd material was totally brilliant (granted it was at least half-aimed at the kind of people who'd go "hey! a Siouxsie Sioux sample!", a smarter version of MIA hipster-baiting w/Straight to Hell, but still)

and just for the record nothing can ever be too Prince

The Drake records in mind are "Crew Love", the aformentioned "Cameras", & "Shut It Down". Granted, 2/3 are produced by The Weeknd, but hey.

Darned cockwombles.
Don't get the hype about the Weeknd. They seem to have crossed over to become vaunted by everyone in much the same way as the XX did (deservedly, in my opinion) a couple of years ago. Easy to draw links between the late-night vibe both bands create. I like the Weeknd, but doesn't seem that new to me, and a bit self-conscious, though I'm not completely sure what i mean by that. Edit: goodness, looking at the other thread, i seemed to think it was great in July. Hmmm :/

As to future soul, I was always slightly perplexed a decade ago that 'Kaleidoscope' didn't produce a legion of imitators (maybe it did, but I didn't hear them). The sound on that record was incredible.
