7 - 8.30pm : THE FABULOUS BARON MUNCHAUSEN (AKA: 'Baron Prásil' Karel Zeman, 1962)

Forget the Terry Gilliam version, this is THE best adaptation of the legendary story, which is rarely screened and not easy to get hold of! It sees Munchausen go on a series of bizarre, dream-like adventures on Earth and into the celestial Heavens . It's an awesome, fairy-tale masterpiece, utilising ingenious animation techniques within live action spectacle, and sepia tinged colours, to create a psychedelic, phantasmagorical vision of pure beauty. Director Zeman is a genius who went on to influence film-makers like Jan Svankmajer, Gilliam and Tim Burton, amongst many others. With a short introduction to the film by James DC.

8.30 - 9.30pm : Club Hell Trailers and Far Out Soundtracks

9.30 - 11pm : THE CREMATOR (Juraj Herz, 1969)

A mentally unhinged and obsessive cremator is tempted towards evil by a Nazi associate, amongst the political turmoil of 1930's Czechoslovakia, and his own unravelling sense of reality. As he enacts ever more violent deeds, his sanity crumbles to dust. The Cremator is full of twisted horror and sick humour, whilst being a witty examination of Fascist ideology. It's a Gothic Horror masterpiece of weird, vast proportions! With a short introduction to the film by James DC.
