Grime 2013

Elijah requested riddims in that 2013>130 thread, and I think he's right - there's a lot of really good new artists making grime / heavily grime-inspired stuff right now, more than there has been in a long time and it'd be great to talk about em, but I don't think it really fits into where that 130 thread is going.

me and slackk spoke about it briefly and figured it's best to leave the essays on Beneath's snares there, and start this thread to talk about these guys (especially as the rolling grime thread is often talking about older and vocal stuff). Here are some i'm really feeling:

Kid D - Apocalypse [free]
https://soundcloud.com/kiddsoundz/kid-d-apocalypse-free-download

Samename - Mishima Curse [Pelican Fly]
https://soundcloud.com/samenames/mishima-curse

Walter Ego - Military Mind [Coyote]
https://soundcloud.com/coyoterecordsuk/coy003-walter-ego-wavey

Rabit - Wolf Spider [forthcoming Glacial Sound]
https://soundcloud.com/glacial-sound/rabit-wolf-spider-hyperdub-x

Slackk - Shogun Assassin [forthcoming Local Action]
https://soundcloud.com/slackk/shogun-assassin

Splurt - J3 [forthcoming Oil Gang]

Mokona - Stewardess Rush [Templar]

Compa is more a dubstep guy but he has some great weird grime tunes, not sure if any are on his Soundcloud though: https://soundcloud.com/compauk

Really big fan of Inkke's stuff. Not loads on the internet but some of the tunes I've got are just too much

That Breen showcase is great too.

I know it's been coming for a while anyway but last year was definitely the one where the instrumental stuff really took over from the vocals side completely I think. Whether it's because everyone's jumped on the trap style beats or what I don't know, but the amount of inventive and just great tunes these days is amazing man.

Really wish K-Ro would finish some stuff properly.

So much good stuff on here, thanks all. Feels like there's a bit of a Sino-grime (or maybe it's more Japanese inflected grime?) flavor bubbling up on quite a few of these. Anyone got a sense of why that might be?

Not to be Johnny Raincloud, but I just wish there was a new MC worth mentioning in addition to these beats, great as they are.

I say this after coming out of watching the BBK Boiler Room, and being embarassed for my teenage self.

this thread>>>

was hoping someone w/their finger on the pulse would do this cos when I saw the 130 thread my immediate thought was isn't grime itself killing it right now? thanks to everyone putting stuff up. been getting into grime in a big way the last few months, great to see it seems to be in such a vibrant place which was definitely not the case when I lost the plot back in middle of 09 or so. (big share of the credit for that def has to go the butterz dudes, especially after reading blackdown's interview w/them)

read an interview w/Samename and iirc he said for him it was just being into anime + being friends w/a Japanese exchange student. was bummed to find out that Mishima Curse is named after the Tekken character and not Yukio tho I probably should've guessed

also, this is technically not 2013 + most dudes here probably know all these tunes already but just in case there are any other people or random lurkers who like me ain't got their finger on the pulse and are trying to get up to speed, here is Spooky's Best of Grime 2012 mix, pretty solid primer on all the big tunes I guess altho it needs more Trim and less Discarda (that's a general rule for everything, actually)

preditah is by far my favourite grime producer at the minute. Watched this feature on him last night, well worth a watch.
Talented guy.

loads of actual good releases lately as well-

Oil Gang- Coolie Joyride
Walter Ego- Military Mind
Goon Club Allstars
Butterz brvip002

All out on vinyl within the last two weeks? Think there were a couple more as well.

radio rip of Wiley over a sick Moony production, couple months old

(how do you embed soundcloud links? sorry, I suck at the internet)
