it's the school holidays here and i've just taken the kids to see robots - christ the animation is stunning. i don't understand just how these things are done but they have created a credible environment that manages to feel 'real', very flashy stuff with curves and shadows and sense of movement. i just sat there in awe of the craft whilst ignoring the rather hokey storyline (when was the last good kids movie for story?) and the wild screen hogging of robin williams. the kids liked it and now seem to think a song is essential to finish the whole thing off. this also followed the usual pattern of having a total surprise on the soundtrack for amidst the melanie blatt cack there was a tom waits moment from swordfishtrombones, this after nick cave on shrek, what next lamonte young up for an oscar for a disney? :D

Indeed! That makes me think pleasing thoughts of a strictly c20 avant soundtracked Fantasia... could be horrendous, but in my head it's perfect.

though to give the Dis there due, the Rite Of Spring is in Fantasia isn't it?

(all very off post i know - sorry!)
