NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH UK BASS
This stuff’s been going for a couple of years now, but I never thought to give it its own thread because I’d confused it with Jackin (as had a number of Dissensians, youtube DJ’s and the curators of Certified Jackin). On reflection however I think Jackin is defined by bouncy, electrohouse-style basslines, which is very different from Bass House.
Sonically it sits between, Deep Tech, Bassline and 4x4 Grime. It eschews the upwardly mobile tendencies of Deep Tech, embracing yobbish, brostep-style bass science and ragga/grime vocal samples. It differentiates itself from Bassline as it is dark, techy and aggressive. It’s swing and spaciousness (echo and reverb) distinguish it from 4x4 Grime.
Tempo wise it’s usually between 125-130 bpm but sometimes a little faster. About 80% of it is straight 4x4, but it has its fair share rhythmic diversity (usually 2step, also some grime, trap, Funky, etc.).
