I have a request for the resident Dissensus technology wonks - well, HMGovt basically, but also anyone else whose interests lie in a similar direction - which is: what good tech blogs are there? It's just I've got an interview on Friday for a job at a company that invents things, and something they're keen on apparently is candidates following up-to-the-minute tech developments. Which I don't, really.

PLEASE HELP ME SLIGHTLY FRAUDULENTLY GET THIS JOB. Thanks very much in advance, you're all lovely.

Currently working at an IT company so passingly acquainted with all this stuff

http://www.wired.com/

Current buzz topics include:

Big Data
The Internet of Things (i.e. sensors in devices that pick up data)
Machine Learning/Bots (http://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-microsoft-future-ai-chatbots/)
Ad-Blocking

Actually, it's a fascinating area when you look at these big subjects - the social/economic ramifications of AI, for example....

It goes without saying that I don't know the first thing about the nuts and boilts of it all.

Another good thing to be au fait with is 'social innovation', which essentially relates to using technology to create a nicer, friendlier, cuddlier world.

Gizmag http://www.gizmag.com/
http://www.extremetech.com/
Popular Mechanics http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/ - maybe too consumer
Ars Technica (ars!) http://arstechnica.co.uk/

Of those four, extreme tech is most likely to dig up stories that cover the most interesting developments.

this one has been good recently, but doesn't offer the volume of the others

Good luck with the interview

Mashable's OK too, though a bit mindlessly neophile

Christ, I started skim-reading this and it started giving me one of my "maybe al-Qa'eda has a point" moments.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll report back tomorrow when I've had the interview. I think it's a long shot to be honest, but nothing ventured, right?
