Older tech and a bit more niche I guess but Phil Cirrocco's recording's of the Hammond Novachord he restored have a similar feel. Check out the restoration site too if you have any interest in the guts of these machines. This one is from the 30s and weighs two tonnes.

You might try Howard Shore's Cronenberg soundtracks too: Scanners, Dead Ringers, The Brood.

No requirement for use of Moog, just that doom/dread feeling.

I absolutely love the Twin Peaks music. The way it segues abruptly from sentimental to sinister is absolutely apposite for that show.

I remembered this, you might like it.

Funnily enough I was thinking of starting a Fender Rhodes/warm tone thread and Twin peaks was going to be one of the examples I would to use. Limiting it to a gloomy + warm tone makes a better thread though.

By the way if you like the twin peaks soundtrack, you might like this (though there are a couple of out of place uptempo tracks):

from sentimental to sinister

it hadn't dawned on me but that's the key, right? it's easy to find "creepy" music, but not much that has that combination.

...and i'd still like to see a "Fender Rhodes/warm tone thread", sadman. ;)

May I apologise for the cringe inducing use of the word 'apposite' here.

I just did a mix of synth stuff but generally more upbeat than what you're looking for... but a lot of the tracks are soundtracks, probably if you made some kind of mirror image mix of the tracks I rejected from those films you might have what you wanted.

You should definitely check Julee Cruise's album Floating into the Night. You'll be familiar with 'falling' aka the Twin Peaks theme tune, but the entire album is similar in tone.

The Theme from Eraserhead (on the flip there a pretty amzing cover of Assault on Precinct 13 theme)

If you're not looking for melodious then Maurizio Bianchi might be your man.

Or zoviet france

There's a bunch of vgm that probably fits well

Thank you all, I will listen to these all at work today.

There's something about these 80s synths that sounds so classic and sinister to this day. Especially the sinister part. Low res sounds conjure more dread.

'the longer the note, the more dread'

Love this! So in this version of events, David Lynch just said 'play something sinister' and he did, then Lynch said 'play something sad' and he did. I wish I could write music that easily lol
