That's a good analysis Barty I think you've done it justice. I'd just like to point out that although I didn't actually make the video in the sense of pushing the button and moving the mouse I came up with the concept and selected the photos and the comic sans font.

1) That's sick mate
2) That beard: is that a beard you can only get when you're wealthy?
3) Paul Simon is somebody I would never have seen you tolerating, let alone liking, so I've learned something today

STEELY DAN - DO IT AGAIN (1972)

You can see why t'Dan get sampled by rap producers a lot. Everything in its right place.

Was caterwauling on the bus when you sent me it.

The one of the three girls, Sojung, her birthday was 3 days before (or after, I can't recall off my head) the accident in question. Watching their live performances is always pretty grim.

In the meantime.

I always get the intro synths confused with Berlin "Take My Breath Away" that sort of 'new wave' portentous intro, but Berlin's is so gaseous its almost like some sort of substance I can't describe, while The Cars song is meant to come in with sentiment. Its not a particularly soothing song for all the concern, and the way the bassist/singer really looks like he's sneery in it, as well as the patronizing look of Ocasek. Its one of those songs where the cruelty comes out but it never sounds aggressive or vicious sonically.
