People who've made great contributions to music, yet they haven't seen much popular reverence nor critical appraisal.

What's proper critical appraisal? Like, Nick Lowe is probably unknown to the gen. pop but obviously a bunch of critics know his importance in the hands of the careers of Elvis Costello or Squeeze.

In the meantime does anyone regard Jellybean Benitez for what he did overtly? Not just the first Madonna album but in being that sort of a bridge figure for dance music in NYC for such a period of time?
