Glitchy rippin'

I've got this ongoing problem when ripping vinyl or other stuff from analogue sources. I keep getting these little glitches that sound like needle-jumping, but it's deffo something that happens in the digital conversion process. Sometimes it happens 2 or 3 times or sometimes not at all. Generally get better results when no other programs running. I'm just using the basic Audacity and USB interface set-up in Windows XP. I've fiddled with the settings but only make things worse! Anyone know what I should be looking for when troubleshooting?

thanks in advance...

first thing that springs to mind is: check the audio interface preferences and make sure that the wordclock option is set to internal

also, if there's an I/O audio buffer setting you can try pushing that up quite high (1024 would be a good starting point)... this increases latency, but when you're just recording in some vinyl it doesn't matter

those are the first two things that might cause what you describe
