Yeah, except that for all the ever-more convuluted mathematical operations that are applied, the results still only show that the US is split roughly 50-50 Republican-Democrat, which we already knew. It's very pretty and satisfying in a mathematical/graphical sense, but it doesn't change anything or show anything new. Cartograms are the 'they stole the election' of 2004 - Democrats need to get over the numbers and start winning voters over.

Definitely. Though the map prior to the rooster (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/maplinear.png) shows how useless the 'nation geographically divided between blue and red' analysis is. But ultimately yeah, Democrats just need to fix up, look sharp.
