When I was maybe six, seven years old or so I really wanted a copy of the star wars soundtrack. My parents very kindly bought a copy for me and presented it to me as a surprise one afternoon. I put in on and was shocked to discover that rather than it being the orchestral score version, it was various synthesizers disco versions of the star wars theme and other movie themes - perhaps by Alan Tew? I was quite distraught at the time and driven to the tears not just by disappointment but because I was shocked that the music had been defiled in this way.
Strangely, I love synthesizers and disco now, probably in some way due this trauma.
Anyone else had any similar experiences that have made a lasting impact on their lives, musical tastes?
