View Full Version : Oh fuck, I hope everyone's alright.

Just saw a news break saying that something, no one's sure whatexactly, has happened on the tube in London. I know there's a lot of Londoners on here, and I'm just hoping everyone's ok.

big series of serial tube station explosions plus at least one bus explosion. at present officially being blamed on LU power surge but nothing's very clear at the moment. naturally timing with the olympic decision invites speculation of terrorists, but nothing is known for sure right now so we're pretty much in the dark.

anyway, i'm in my office at hampstead and i'm fine, though gawd knows how/if i'm going to get home tonight.

Seems like it's all going right off, with several explosions on the tube network and at least one bus. 20 dead reported so far.

I'm alright and so is Paul Meme.

Obviously it's best to assume everyone else is ok unless you hear otherwise - people will be contacting family members and stuff (or away from comuters/trying to get home), so may not be posting here

07-07-2005, 11:48 AM
Of course. I called my mum and dad, who are in London, and the poor things hadn't even heard anything had happened.

07-07-2005, 12:11 PM
i'm okay - glad you guys are

07-07-2005, 12:22 PM
me too

07-07-2005, 12:29 PM

I am locked in a government office in Victoria -- nobody allowed in or out.

Pisser cos I had a big workshop planned for the start-up today.

Not sure I can get back to Sheffield tonight.

i'm stuck in the department of health building - missed the explosions by 10 minutes as i walked into the aldgate area at 9:00 this morning.

i'm feeling a bit shook up, worried about my mates as i can't get in touch with anyone. someone is saying here that theres also a bomb in leicester square but no-one can confirm. this is fucked.

I heard about Leicester Square too. Bear in mind it might be a "controlled explosion" (if it happened at all). Another thing I heard is that a bomb disposal squad blew up a bag of washing at Swindon station!

has anyone heard from woebot?

07-07-2005, 01:09 PM
woebot's madonna post is from one hour before melchior's post starting this thread

not sure if that helps clarify whether he's safe

needless to say i'm sympathetic to concerns and fears of entire london-based dissensus community

are you guys able to communicate using telephone? or are phone lines jammed?

07-07-2005, 01:16 PM
what the press says here (spain) its that the calls are restricted, and you can only call to the hospital, etc.

07-07-2005, 01:20 PM
actually woebot's madonna post is from 13 hours before -- so it's no help at all

07-07-2005, 01:31 PM
My thoughts are with my London peeps and all Dissensus UK crew today. Hope you and yours are well.

Maximum respect to all emergency and medical personnel from a fellow paramedic. Be strong, and serve the people.

07-07-2005, 01:33 PM
Got caught up in some madness at Liverpool Street. Heard bus exploding at Tavistock Square, round the corner from my office. Hope everyone else is ok and gets home safely

07-07-2005, 01:33 PM
I anxiously hope that every londoner here's safe & that friends/families are too... Bloody fucking day.

Yeah, I'm finding it really hard to concentrate today...

... and not just cos I got absolutely hammered last night :)

07-07-2005, 01:37 PM
Yeah, I am OK. Locked into a building in Canary Wharf where everything has been stopped. No through traffic, no nothing.

07-07-2005, 01:58 PM
me and blackdown both well. I've blogged. Internet and phones not working properly still so try not too panic too much if you're waiting to hear from people in central london. v. sad.

07-07-2005, 02:00 PM
just getting on with it really, one man down due to the transport lockdown so more to do .
not really suprised or shocked, its the inevitable confirmation of my paranoia really, just prepared for more if it happens to come, which i hope it doesn't.
Glad everyone is ok here.

07-07-2005, 02:01 PM
has anyone heard from woebot?

spoke to him via email this morn and he didn't know, so i guess he's fine - he's at home i assume

07-07-2005, 02:18 PM
i heard from woebot, he is okay.

07-07-2005, 03:00 PM
I'm fine, just back from central london. Army on the streets but everything weirdly calm. My wife missed the city bombs by minutes.

We're in for a fairly unpleasant time.

07-07-2005, 03:24 PM
Take care all Dissensus crew in London. Terrible news. Hope you all have made it home safely.

captain easychord
07-07-2005, 04:16 PM

07-07-2005, 04:52 PM
I hope you are all okay and that London returns to normal soon, though I am guessing that will be the 'new normal.' My thoughts are with you all.

07-07-2005, 05:56 PM
I'm alright, Jack.

07-07-2005, 06:03 PM

07-07-2005, 08:39 PM

07-07-2005, 10:56 PM

haven't heard from luke and craner.. has anyone else? Hope they're ok...

08-07-2005, 08:34 AM
glad everyone is OK.

bit touch and go here actually. everything seemed to happen SMACK BANG around us.

all week ive been tubing via old street to green park (today too) but yesterday, bizarrely/luckily, i was told to work from home.

c was taking a bus up to islington with baby sam. first heard about everything via mms. couldnt get hold of her on the mobile and started panicking a bit. at last she got through and i went to islington to pick her up in the car (she tears/jelly) then we picked up lulu from nursery.

that would have been that but parents in law were down from glasgow and mother-in-law was collecting fellowship from here (http://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/) at ceremony which wasnt cancelled. we had to drive through town on a really inauspicious route (gt russell square > kings cross > tavistock square) to regents park. traffic was mental, scary vibes, masses of people in the street and 6 of us squeezed in a tiny VW.

trip home even more mental. diversions everywhere had to get home via holloway and traffic crawled. took 2 hours.

spent all day waiting for the second wave of attacks.

appalling to hear of the deaths and casualties (700!!!) but i cant help but feel we got off lightly....400 dead in Madrid..........3000 in New York....

08-07-2005, 10:59 AM
i've heard from mpc. What about simon SDC?

I'm feeling really rubbish today.

Walked for hour and half Victoria to St Pancras yesterday, weird seeing pedestrian London, crowds going my way... had to walk all roundback of st Pancras but there was a train waiting there and ten minutes after arriving at station I was on my way home to Sheffield... got back, saw the boys asleep in bed, said hello to Carolyn who fortytunately had loads of friends round to cheer her up, drinking wine... I went upstairs to listen to noisecore and dancehall, came down and just flopped with Carolyn... Spent morning in park with family and friends and am just in shick about it all; half an hour later and I would've been in middle of it.

08-07-2005, 02:46 PM
has anyone heard anything from diggedy derek walmsley?

thoughts and love to all dissensus london & uk crew...

08-07-2005, 04:10 PM
I've run out of words for once...
This is terrible, terrible.
Best wishes and thoughts...
Take care, all London/UK crew...
We're thinking of you

postie reckons there are more attacks going on and he said there are tons of cops around the royal free - never know maybe one of the suspects is there , maybe they are just getting testimonies.
All the posties round here are a bit fucking crazy anyway, ones we used to have were obsessed with the masons and used to try and get us to burn masonic meetings they had secretley recorded on muffled tape to cd.
Oh and very few will actually come to this building as we share a block with gay times.

08-07-2005, 05:17 PM
ive yet to hear anything regarding Luka...or Nick Gutterbreakz

it's too late. liz has been confirmed as having been killed in the blast.

i have revived CoM especially to record my thoughts:

i feel gutted. shattered. and i was not even her partner.

18-07-2005, 11:29 AM
I'm really, really sorry to hear that.
