What format are they in? Wav/Aiff? you need to encode them as MP3's. A 6-700mb file should go to roughly 100megs if you convert it at somewhere between 128kpbs and 192kpbs - depending on what kind of music it is...
I-tunes is a bit shit for MP3 encoding though - and MP3 playing and transferring for that matter...
