Aesthetics: Visual VS. Audio

zhao

there are no accidents
it is often astonishing to me that refined aesthetic sensibilities are non-transferrable.

how many great records have BUTT-ugly sleeves? musicians who use sophisticated palettes of sounds to create exquisite tableaus of sonic innovation... goes out in hideous album art.

(on a side note: ofcouse you can't judge by covers, but a lot of times I distrust well or over-designed sleeves because they reek of a high marketing budget, which means the music is most likely the bastard child of a board of directors somewhere. and I'm more likely to trust low production value packaging because it says "authenticity" (whatever that means).)

and the reverse is also true: I have met so many visual artists and designers who make breathtaking work with amazing line work and perfectly chosen colors... who listen to the crapiest collection of crap music. or just extremely musically underdeveloped.

does this strike you as strange sometimes?
