Psychic Youth 7" - any connection?

I was recently listening to a batch of 1980 UK electro stuff, and came across a track by a group labelled Psychic Youth, called 'The Future Now' - it's good, but definitely not 'industrial', more similar to the first Ladytron album (from 2001) actually / uncannily..does anyone (ie- John Eden, Effay, etc) know whether there's any TG / PTV connection? And no, there's nothing on google at all....

I haven't a clue - this is a load of stuff burned onto CD-R someone sent me. We're talking some major obscurities here, names like Mens' Recovery Project, Ladies Who Lunch, etc etc....and zero information. Oddly enough, there's also some tracks attributed to 'Monty Cantsin' which sound like really bad sub-ABC hits (with Italian accents)

Monte Cantsin slots into the whole Neoist pre-luther blissett thing, as you probably know. (I think it's covered in Rapid Eye/Vague/Assault on Culture)

The 80s Italian end of it was mainly centred around a guy called Victoire Baroni and his Trax project which was into mail art and all that. He also had some involvement with TG, iirc.

Cheers Matt and John - I was also blown away by a track called 'Riot Squad' by Vice Versa, which I've only now discovered 'Idiot's Guide to Dreaming' raved about last December...(hangs head in shame) -

And to just blow any cred left, this is the first time I've ever heard Soft Cell's Girl With the Patent Leather Face (down here as 'Painted Leather Face')...which seems to be bleaker and nightmarish, lyrically and musically, than anything else I've heard by them....

Yeah, that's why I found those tracks quite disappointing, they just sound like bogstandard Flock of Seagulls B-sides.

I don't have any info on the psychic youth tune, other than i like it as well. I heard it on the "none night of flexipop vol. 1" cd-r / p2p comp.

I really like these "none night" comps, incidentally my boyfriend tried to pass one on to me over a year ago but I couldn't squeeze it in to my rigid listening schedule at the time ;)

compilations like these are a double edged sword for me because i'll come across that one tune that I just need more of or at least some info on and often time there's in fact no more music nor info. :( Like right now I'm terribly obsessed w/ a tune by a.t.r.o.x. called "against the odds" ...reminds me of zuckerzeit era cluster...leaves me feeling like christ why is this damn tune only 3 minutes long!!

Yeah, same Flexipop source here. I know what you mean - it's like the pre-Net days when John Peel played something that made your jaw drop, and all you had was a title and band name scribbled on a bit of paper. Incidentally, I don't suppose you know how many of these comps came out in total?

Ok kind of related...

I bought a PTV re-release from smallfish a few years ago which has OV Power on the A side and a track by K.I.M. on the B side, although curiously the EP as a whole is credited to K.I.M.

The K.I.M. track is excellent, slow tribal percussion & wordless moaning plainsong vocals - like a longer & less frenetic version of the ACR track Blown Away.

So who are K.I.M. and what's the connection with PTV?

Well there goes my mastermind "specialist subject"! Never heard of this - is it the actual PTV recording of Ov Power? Madness...

Ah - seems like it is a cover, but they look interesting: http://www.forcedexposure.com/artists/kim.html

I cant say if its a cover or not (not being particularly well up on TG/PTV, I've never heard the original). But its credited to Psychic TV on the sleeve.

If someone wants to post up an MP3 of the PTV original, I'll get back to you all with a definitive answer!
