Favourite, most UPLIFTING songs

too punk to drunk
Strip away all the innerlectyul rubbish and leave behind songs that promote the simple function of music : to UPLIFT PEOPLE (and an undogmatic humanistic, even spiritualistic means)!!! SO I'm curious to know what songs basically 'do it' for you dissensus, here's a selection of my goose-pimple inducing tracks:

Pere Ubu - Final Solution (Laughner's solo as the ultimate electrified fanfare)
Hawkwind - Space is deep (where the fuzz just changes key and whoosh!)
Chic- Freak Out (yes I remember disco and it could be great!)
Donna Summer/Moroder - funky , sexy , trancey, heavy
Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel - white lines (this sonded better than anything in 80s clubs)
Kiss - Rock n roll all night (coz it distills an purifies everything about glam rock nroll into an anthem)
Funkadelic - Super Stupid (it's the heaviest and funkiest)
Jimi Hendrix - Easy rider (had to throw a Hendrix coz I'm not a snob)
The Who - You better (since I was primordial when they were huge, I remember this one, and love the key changes)
AC/DC - Who lotta Rosie (Pure, unadulterated heavy riff crunch that No-one, absolutely no-one has been able to touch, despite many trying, many have failed: PURE)
Kraftwerk - Neon Lights (that looping progression, white-boy 'flashlight')
Can - Mother Sky (just how it starts mid leadbreak and never stops)
Bowie - heroes (melancholia personfied)
Eno - The True wheel (perfect moderne pop and Manzanera's solo)
Talking Heads - Once in lifetime/found a job/thank you for sending me an angel/heaven - yep!
Neil Young - Down by the river (jam on)

Fuck I'm starting to feel like that DFA song 'I wuz there'! :p

Bit Mangler
Off the top of my head. No doubt this would change if I did it again tomorrow... You say "songs," so I'll skip the dance and classical music...

James Brown - It's a New Day (never fails to get me on the dance floor. too funky)
311 - Visit (I just love this chorus. Reminds me of californian sun)
The Sonics - The Hustler
SIgur Ros - Good Weather For Airstrikes (to piss off buick6)
Ennio Morricone - Buono Fortuna Jack (what i imagine ascending to heaven to sound like)
Emperor - Into the Infinity Of Thought (uplifting blackmetal? hell yeah!)
Seals and Crofts - Hummingbird (all that's good about cheesy 70s rock)
u.n.k.l.e - Lonely Soul (when that beat and those strings meet - wow)
Faith No More - Everything's Ruined (got me through some hard times)
Andrew WK - She Is Beautiful (so full of energy. so full.)
Guitar Vader - Ringo Melody (japanese cutesy pop meets the melvins)
Ben Folds Five - Julianne (nice pop song, driving bass, lurve the chorus)
The Saints - Stranded

that'll do.

"Prayer to God," Shellac. Not long ago, hearing this for the first time in a long time lifted me, literally, physically, out of a months-long clinical depression. The effect was immediate: I SAT UP IN BED when it came on, then listened to it a dozen more times, smiling and writing. The next day I got up early, called a friend, went to the gym and worked out, and generally got my shit together. The day after that was awful again, but still it was an extraordinary experience. Results may vary.

Down since 1999
Here's a random fiver of pretty standard recent pop:

-Men at Work - Land Down Under (Feels like home. As if it was played in my crib as a baby or something. Makes me feel like I'm from Australia every time.)
-Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug (Incredible song for many reasons but the highlight is the last 10 seconds- the most emotionally intense moment I've ever heard)
-Everything But the Girl - Missing ("Like the deserts miss the rain" captures it so perfectly. I FEEL it. Melancholy solitary bittersweet longing, etc..)
-Madonna - Nothing Really Matters (The rhthym is emotion. The lyrics are cliche yet still profound somehow. Maybe its just me.)
-Kelly Clarkson - Behind These Hazel Eyes (Best pure pop song in recent memory. Chorus is an incredible hook and truly emotional. Its all about the 2-3 min changeup.)

http://www.gearchange.org/ <- Best concept for a web site ever. :D

Anyway, some stuff that gives me a rush...
  • Just Kissed My Baby - The Meters (If I had to pick a favourite song, this is it)
  • Get Lifted - George McCrae (wins most appropriate title award, if nothing else ;))
  • Naive Melody (This Must Be The Place) - Talking Heads
  • Birthday (Fennesz Remix) - Junior Boys
  • Upside Down - Diana Ross (Buick6 took Chic, so I'll go with another of their productions)
  • Bring The Pain - Method Man
  • I'll Be Around - The Spinners
  • Burnin - Anthill Mob (The most stupid lyrics in the world. I just started laughing out loud thinking about it. I think it's the original mix I'm thinking of.)
  • Murderous Style - Dub War (the Tempa lot, not the dub metal type band)
etc.

Oy loyke Kelly Kwarkson...(NOT) guilty pwezha! 'Fade away' and 'since you've been gone' is superior white-bubblegum pop.
