(couldn't resist!)
is it

the positive transcendence of private property as human self-estrangement, and therefore as the real appropriation of the human essence by and for man; communism therefore as the complete return of man to himself as a social (i.e., human) being – a return accomplished consciously and embracing the entire wealth of previous development. This communism, as fully developed naturalism, equals humanism, and as fully developed humanism equals naturalism; it is the genuine resolution of the conflict between man and nature and between man and man – the true resolution of the strife between existence and essence, between objectification and self-confirmation, between freedom and necessity, between the individual and the species. Communism is the riddle of history solved, and it knows itself to be this solution. (Marx, 1844 Manuscripts)

or is it a justly destroyed statist perversion of socialism? or was that, as a few trots tend to claim, state capitalism? is it (cough) utopian? is it just the negation of capitalism? what, if it is none of these things, would it look like?

That sounds brilliant!

I for one look forward to the day when one's species-being (Gattungswesen - or as we should probably better translate it, generic life - as in the French translation la vie generique - or generic being, more in keeping with its Hegelian overtones) coincides with one's existence as a social individual, differentiated by capacity, but justly rewarded in a true spirit of humanity and equality.

If I could read crime novels in the morning, hunt rats in the afternoon, and criticise Hollywood blockbusters in the evening, I'd be a happy piglet. Er, hold on....

yes, but you have to write reviews for publications of dubious repute to earn a crust occasionally

The meeting ended with Trotsky being ordered to make a public statement admitting and apologizing for crimes against the workers' state. Trotsky jumped from his seat and tried to slam the door of the throne room at the Kremlin. The hall door is massive, Trotsky pulled it with all his strength, but it was dead slow to open. In his fury, he did not notice and made repeated attempts to bang it shut. Thus instead of witnessing a dramatic gesture indicating a historic breach, we watched a sorry figure struggling with a door.

— Boris Bajanov, personal secretary to Josef Stalin and witness to Leon Trotsky's expulsion from the Soviet Central Committee

I have a beard which has "earned" me multiple comparisons to Trotsky as of late. Also have somewhat similar hair, I suppose.
