Exegene: Free Leftfield (mainly) Dnb Downloads

In view of an Exegene release appearing on DJ Clever's new Knowledge mix, and in connection with other discussions among Dissensians and Dissensus-related bloggers about the state of jungle, I thought it might be worth mentioning a refreshing and relatively new drum and bass netlabel: Exegene.

Exegene was started in 2004 as a non-profit netlabel for unsigned drum and bass producers where releases are made available for free. If you go to the "Releases Page," you will be able to download, for free, a number of tracks by up and coming producers, some of whom are becoming more established by the minute.

Though not all of the releases are of the same quality, there are some burners worth checking out, since they not only push the boundaries of drum and bass in a way advocated by many forward-thinking producers, DJs, and followers of the scene, but also because they offer a better view of the 'underground' state of things as championed by DJ Clever and Kuma in their various press releases for the Knowledge mix and subsequent tour.

Producers worth checking out, in my humble opinion, at the site include Macc, dgoHn, Martmsan, Alpha Omega, Paradigm X, and Dissident, many of whom appear on Clever's mix, and many of whom and are also favorites among the Subvert Central bunch. There is a forum for discussing the releases; mix CDs from the label are said to be forthcoming.
