my band are recording a single, we want to get a grime producer / mc to remix it for us...

wondered what layers in the mix they'll need to use etc

what should we mix down?

cheers,

Matt

Just keep everything as separate as possible. So, aim to provide full bounced tracks of each of the following:

- main comped vocal track
- backing vox / harmonies
- drums (both as a stereo mix and individual kit parts if possible)
- percussion
- bass
- guitars

You get the idea.

Mute the reverb and delays. If one part really relies on reverb or delay to give it its sound, you could provide bounced wet and dry tracks and let the remixer decide which to use.

A couple of things that are always useful:

- remember to label all of the files properly

- if you're using a computer system to record, note the exact BPM of your original song and let the remixer know what it is (in case they want to timestretch stuff).

- always bounce stuff from the same starting point. Even if you only play cowbell halfway through the song, start the bounce file from the very beginning of the song. This means that the remixer can just throw everything into a sequencer and it will all be in time as long as the start points of all the files are aligned.

Also, be prepared for the possibility that they might just chop out 2 bars of nose flute, stick some drums on it and trash all of the rest ;)
