and Maldita Vecindad up @ Central Park's SummerStage free series .
Hard to tell how crowded this one will be , or if thunderstorms will allow for an uninterupted perf,
but hey , it's free ...

Wow , if Konono #1 comes to your town , you wanna check them !
That was an inspired performance today .
Never heard the BASS thumb piano instrument - man the freq's were fat & low.
The 'pieces' played today were 2 long ones , sounding in form like what i had heard on the first Konono release, but with the woman singing and playing perc and more vocals all around.
The mainman elder just stood still and rocked out on his instrument , 2 other thumb piano's around him
(bass , mid and high)

Daara J was pretty great themselves , stalking the stage , rapping and singing

Crowd danced through these 2 first sets fo the day,
no rain , just clear blue sky with white clouds floating on 2 levels above and at one point , a rainbow in a cloud.

A good part of the crowd was people waiting for Maldita and when they hung their banner from the bk of stage , a flurry of Mexicans of many stripes rushed up front as the group began.
Was great to see all the mixed people rock out , Senegal , Congo and Mexican

Then one finds out that ...
After Antony , Bjork has already had Konono record on some of her new tunes in Belgium.
Hmmm ...
Some years ago I might have been excited by such a collaboration
but by now ?
