Freak folk

I know nothing at all about this scene but have been interested in finding out more for awhile. What is worth hearing and what isn't? Does anyone know anythign about this?

I'm not sure what's the difference between freak-folk and free-folk.. I'm not even sure what either are :p

I like the Finnish free/freak-folk stuff, Anaksimandros, Avarus, Kemialliset Ystävät, etc.. lofi/diy..

But you got it pretty right indie with acoustic, generally finger picked guitars and gay yodelling.

The Better ones sound like John Fahey or Nick Drake, the worser ones sounds like pretentious, self-important versions of Tiny Tim.

Deerhoof have a reputation for being very good live, though I've never seen them. Would like to though.
