US sets up war with Iran situation?

Anyone know more about this? I received this email from someone connected with indymedia, with links to support it that are about a week old. It suggests the US is preparing a setup for a war with Iran:

"US Warships are currently steaming toward the Persian Gulf, Iran's front yard, scheduled to arrive on October 21st. Soldiers on those ships have recieved their PDO's (Prepare To Deploy Orders) which are only given shortly before war deployment. Among the ships are a nuclear aircraft carrier and a mining ship.

It seems apparent that the US ships will mine and blockade Iran's coast, which is a classic Act Of War. Of course, US TV Watchers will be told something else. Iran will probably attack the US ships, which is well within their rights, but US Television will say that it was an
unprovoked attack and we need to go to war with Iran."

That seems to be the case. It's not obvious whether it's posturing, some sort of contingency plan or part of an actual current plan to attack, but it doesn't exactly fill me with hope.

I wasn't the most attentive reader, but I didn't see any actual evidence for that in the links given. I'm also not entirely sure how much this sort of trick would gain over just ramping up the threat rating of Iran's nuclear programme until they can claim to have 'no choice but to attack.'

Yeah my impression wasn't that the articles said that the US is intedning to mine the Gulf or anything.

But I think that's a pretty standard trick from the US - to position US troops (or invent them), and then provoke an incident in order to go to war publicly.

you may be right that the US these days needs even less pretext. We'll see if that's the case. sigh..

I'm picking if diplomacy fails on the nuclear talks, sanctions like a no fly zone will be one of the first measures implemented. Then it's only a matter of time before a US plane gets "shot down" by hostile fire with the ensuing retaliation being shocking and awful. Chances are the plane shot down will be a drone flying into a non blockaded area to deliberately draw a response.

Seems these kindly guys are looking to "empower" the Iranians....

Interesting tidbit: if you look in the Scholars and Fellows section you'll see James Akins in among all the ex-services guys: he was the US State dept's Director of Fuels and Energy office in the late 60s and then ambassador to Saudi Arabia in the early 70s and he helped organise the OPEC pride rise in '73. A lot of people don't know that the US was the main promoter of this (it was (ill?)conceived as a form of economic warfare against W Europe and Japan).

Anyway, lucky Iranians...
