So, is the widely touted view that the Democrats may now gain a majority in the Senate accurate? And how much real influence over policy would they have if this is case?
There's also a theory that it's better for them not to have control over the senate because then they're open to attack over the next couple of years for whatever problems that can be pinned on them by the Republicans, costing them victory in 2008.
And they're a bunch of wet liberals right? Just as under the thumb of big business as the Republicans.
Maybe an American Dissentian can shed a little light on this for me.

As immediately pleasurable as it might seem to be rid of Bush, or at least at this juncture to inflict a mortal wound upon his repulsive presidency, the overriding impression I have is that the Democrats (due in all likelihood to the right wing stranglehold on the media in the US) have swung ever further to the right. As such it might be even MORE dangerous to have some people in charge who are slightly better at not pissing off foreign governments, who act out for the same Imperialist American Century project, but by more insidious, subtle means. Indeed, shorn of imbeciles like Rumsfeld the efficacy of the US will increase demonstrably, with all the attendant dangers. I can't see anything hopeful emerging in the near future here, unfortunately.

However merely on the basis of making a little more progress on climate change anything that damages Bush will do some good.

what america needs to do is embrace good old paleoconservatism! small government, isolationism, non-intervention except when strictly necessary and so on. unfortunately the chances of this happening anytime soon are close to zero.

A wet liberal is somebody on the centre left who pays lip-service to socialist or radical ideas, but is too weak or ineffectual in their opposition of the right, big business, etc.

So what's a 'wet conservative' someone who didn't shower after a session in the sauna?

And whats a 'wet leftie' - a leftie who got pissed on and beheaded after infiltrating an Al-Quaida cell and got sprung for being a rootless cosmopolitan?
