As close to a rock star as a Lacanian theorist and defender of St. Paul can get, the Slovenian cultural critic Slavoj Žižek loves Hitchcock films, the Matrix trilogy, and has the unique ability to flip the tables in any ideological conversation. In an interview with the Believer, Žižek claimed that Western Buddhism is a vestigial influence from Nazi Germany. (Hitler carried a copy of the Bhagavad Gita in his pocket at all times.) He has less guilt over accepting money from Abercrombie & Fitch than he does from American universities. His lectures have a circular, wink-wink, hyper-caffeinated logic, but when he becomes incomprehensible, try to appreciate the formal beauty of his postmodern rhetoric. (HGM)
