South Africa : Pitch Black Afro

Tha Hymphatic Thabs.

Pitch Black is kinda Busta Rhymesy and Thabs is just from another planet altogether and has to be heard to be believed, I can up some if anyone wants to hear it.

I think he's the bollocks, if you like it please let him know at his myspace :

cos I know when I went on africanhiphop.com asking about him, people wilded out that I heard of him in London, and I'm sure he'd appreciate it. He comes out of the abstract spoken word scene over in Cape Town / Joburg.

Some Pitch Black Afro to come, just waitin for it to upload.

it's kinda like the South African 'Chronic' or something, was totally huge over there, produced by DJ Cleo, who's the equivalent of Dr. Dre I guess, he's a musical beast, and a nice bloke to boot. People who like Thabs hate him lol, underground vs overground wars.

TTC from France are good

I was thinking of mentioning them.

But while their beats are amazing, many of their lyrics are unbelievably awful. At least in translation (I do also like their flow, they make the words sound good, but the meaning... ugh.....)

I think the Demon Boyz stuff is being reissued - I keep seeing stickers to that effect around London, at any rate.

I liked that IAM LP (l'ecole...) and thought that World According to RZA thing was not bad (never bothered to follow up on any of the names from it though). Rate all the Mudfam and Skinnyman stuff and also have a lot of time for Braintax. I liked some of the earlier New Flesh stuff too.

Anyone ever heard the hip hop record that Jah Shaka produced? I haven't. I'd like to though.

They're reissuing Recognition. i'd like to say it still sounded great, but such is the paranoia that even an album 20 years old now gets sent out with drops all over it. Ho hum.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Roots Manuva here.

will definately check these reccomendations when i get some time!! if anyone wants some help getting into the brazilian hip-hop scene let me know!

Beast of Burden
TTC are kind of stupid and throughly disgusting if you speak/understand french well enough. i sort of like them because of this but they'renot really that interesting. i'm interested to hear more about proper french rap from the banlieus though. it's something i know very little about.

just heard this album by Swiss (I think?) group Red Astaire. very nice. latin brass samples, old school vibe with new-school production, solid through out. includes great version of Pump Up the Volume....

Swedish.

Check out his bootleg mixes of Badu and D'Angelo. They're unbelievable.
