Computer sound cards and speakers

I hate it when I do a thread and no-one answers so I'm replying to this even though I really don't have much of a clue about soundcards, M-Box is what alot of mates use, we use a motu one as well but it seems a bit patchy...

i'm looking for a solid mobile speaker solution for laptop. something that sounds as good and powerful as bose, but kompakt enough to carry around... maybe even fit in the backpack??? does such a thing exist? seems like it should.

Do you have a budget?

The "best" performance could easily cost you over £5,000 - there are so many options these days, at various price levels. Working to a set budget would give a starting point, at least.

Do you record into your computer as well, or is this strictly for playback?

Would you prefer a firewire, USB or PCI connection?

The Apogee mini-DAC is sick, but its something like 800 quid.
