there are no accidents
genius or a case of right-place right-time?

me thinks a bit of both. (but prolly more the later)

especially difficult to judge after the fact -- is the cover of Unknown Pleasures perfect for the music or do we THINK it is perfect because the image is burnt into our minds? is it iconic of its own merits or has it BECOME iconic due to association?

the nit-picking and anal retentive perfectionism, is it expressive of a meta-rational empathy for the "zeitgeist", an intuition which reaches to the heart of the times, OR is it just some prima-donna behaving like a princess which becomes high-theater in the eyes of the press, which then becomes "legendary" and thus taking on all the significance which we attribute in hindsight?

we should do a poll...

Darned cockwombles.
The cover for 'Movement' is a classic, even if the idea is 'transplanted' from Fortunato Depero:

There's also another NO single that had four coloured versions, based upon a work by one of the Futurists (maybe Depero again?). Whatever, another great piece of work.

I think the fact that he's always been a little bit ahead of his time is testament to his talent.
Like Warhol, he's got a knack of seeing what's coming over the horizon in terms of attitudes towards style/taste.
