Some of it looks interesting, tho' I wish academics would abandon the precious 'translated-badly-from-the-turgid-French' style that they seem to think is needed to show that they are 'intellectual.'

(just skimming the opening grafs of that DJ piece but it looks... pretty... turgid.)

It's scholarship, so way less effervescent and impassioned than pop crit, where one can also trim explanation and precision in favor of readability. This article is actually among the better written cultural studies scholarship I've come across (not much contest there, unfortunately).
