early jungle

I was reading the interview on blackdowns blog with burial. Burial talks about early jungle being "pirate sounding" and how it sounded different to the sound that it has become now. I have never really been exposed to this type of sound, a friend listens to drum and bass, but its more up to date and ive never really got that into it. Except one accelerated culture cd from 2003 with zinc and andy c.

Just wondering if some jungle heads could recommend something for me to look into. I would want cd's, preferably sets if they are available, rather then singles.

As previously mentioned on the earlier thread Golden Era Jungle is a great site for old skool jungle and hardcore sets.

Some CD compilations worth checking out: (though nearly all of these are deleted now)

Jungle Tekno Vols. 1 - 8

Hardcore - Leaders Of The New School
Hardleaders II
Hardleaders III - Enter The Darkside
Hardleaders IV - Into The Jungle
Hardleaders V Presents Jungle Dub

Drum n Bass Selection Vols. 1 -5 (mixed by DJ Hype)
Various - Telepathy Jungle Dons
Various - DJ Box Vol 1 & 2
Various - Jungle Soundclash Vol 1 & 2
Various - Jump Up Showdown 1 & 2
Various - AWOL Live
Various - Urban Essence (De Underground)
Shy FX - The Formula (Ebony)
A Guy Called Gerald - 28 Gun Bad Boy & Black Secret Technology (Juice Box)
Kemet Crew - Champion Jungle Sound (Parousia)

not forgetting Remarc's Sound Murderer & Unreleased Dubs CDs which are still reasonably easy to get hold of.

There's loads more but this is just off the top of my head at the mo'...

But you really want to download some sets from the pirates. The compilations and the dj sets just don't have the same hectic flavour and the tracks aren't as raw.

if jungle preserve or that dissensus thread has a link to Randall and Kenny Ken b2b @hr set at AWOL in 1993 grab it on sight. i still think it's the most perfectly chaotic-sounding introduction to the emergence of jungle.
