Phono pre-amp - help wanted

Hey,

I'm wanting to convert some of my records to MP3. I need a budget phono-pre-amp to do this - can anyone recommend one?

I'd like to be able to preamp a microphone too, so a combination of these two features would be good.

A DJ mixer would do this, but the ones I've seen locally are pretty expensive. Maybe a second hand mixer would be best.

I just got an Apex phono preamp to plug my turntable into a non-DJ mixer than only has line inputs. It's quiet and it was pretty cheap - CAD $35 which is about £15. No mic input though. You might try Radio Shack for one of those inexpensive little mixers they have as long as it isn't too noisy.

thanks for that quick response people.

I neglected to mention that I have have an m-audio audiophile 2496 sound card, so I wanted to connect to the RCAs on that rather than go through USB. Does USB handle audio Ok btw?

I think i have an old amp around somewhere, maybe I'll try and get some DIN to RCA leads made up for that and see how that goes.
