caravaggio

i always found his work too dramatic, pathetic, it didn't suit my temperament. then last week i came face to face with a few of his paintings, notably judith beheading holophernes. what incredible violence and erotism! the association of the two is something i could not understand in my youth, i loathed it, but water has passed under the bridge. it's strange how acquired tastes give the most pleasure.

quite right, cheese and wine. i had some very nasty cheeses a few weeks ago but i can't remember the name of any of them, unfortunately.

Sort of a cliched comparison, but Caravaggio's Judith has nothing on Artemesia Gentileschi's:

I do greatly enjoy Caravaggio. Look at that SEXY Christ.

Opinions on the Jarman film? I half-watched it while cooking once, seemed nice to look at if a bit stilted.
