latin-jazz piano-led dance music -- where to begin?

dominic

Beast of Burden
you know what i mean, the sounds that inspired t-coy's "carino"

i want the real dancefloor-centered stuff from the 60s and 70s

so where to begin?

eddie palmieri?

stand-out records that i should have my eyes and ears open for?

what are the classics of the genre?

henry s

Street Fighting Man
my fave of this genre is Joe Bataan's version of "The Bottle"...more latin than disco, even though it appeared on the Salsoul imprint...

yo dominic, i got you on this stuff... my latin records are in boxed away right now, but i will say, yeah, you are dead on w/ Eddie Palmieri... he is the king of latin-jazz piano, without a doubt...

his funk stuff w/ harlem river drive is dope, but for more latin stuff any of his records on Coco records are pretty great... some people might not like 'em, but i like his records with Cal Tjader as well... El Nuevo Sonido is a nice one... more on the jazz side, so maybe actually check that one first...

in general for nyurican stuff, if you are buying vinyl, anything on Tico, Fania, Allegre, and Vaya are all worth checking...
