I am disappointed that more people aren't talking about this album. It's fantastic.

Saw him at the RAH last year, it was fantastic.

I've got the album and saw him last year (Hammersmith, not RAH).

I like/d both (esp the album). But I'm not sure they're that good. this isn't turning into one of those 'my god, he can still breathe, genius' rave reviews routinely dished out to elderly rock legends, is it?

yes but i prefer the mixtapes

:D

most acts tend to lose authenticity with age. They get older, and while the songs are still well-written, the production values are too good, it's too slick... I can't put my finger on it. Maybe "over-engineered" would be the correct way to articulate it. But this, this sounds incredibly authentic for 2008. Which isn't to say he's ceded control to the studio engineers, he just hasn't let the recording process overtake the performance.

yeah its more just about the vibe, recreating the whole royal studios ambience/feel, than anything else.
