so i picked up these two reissues lp's by this bloke jean pierre massiera. creator of the 'maledictus sound' apparently.

i'm seriously blown away. it's original, yet very accessible (at least to my ears). the depth and experimentation that goes on can only be admired, covering everything imaginable, -psyche, disco, b-movies, soul, p-funk style, freak-beat, electronics, beatbox, experimental rock, improv, afro beat etc!!!! all from the late 60's to the very early 80's.

actually is does remind me of parliaments freakier stuff, yet even more weirder. recommended! i don't know anything about this guy and that the original records go for stupid money, so i'm very happy and thank the label who supplied these reissues.

Massiera is a freaked out genius.

That Human Egg album is out of control, Les Maledictus Sound, Horrific Child, Venus Gang, The Starlights all classic left field stuff. The song on the second LP in that set called 'I go to Bahia' is divine, a song sung in English by French duo Mickey + Joyce backing up brazilian beauty Helena with a funky disco/samba beat and fuzzy warm strings...bliss...

Yeah, very odd stuff. The only one I have is Maledictus Sound which is very wonky psych but I remember hearing a really good library (Phantasmes or something?) and a less good one. I think that my friend has a weird seven inch that he produced with spoken excerpts from Hitler's speeches? I think that I've got another seven that he was involved in but it's not all that. Visitors, Horrific Child, Mr Whinster are all very desirable and I think they vary between psych, prog and disco but I don't know how good they are or if they are hyped because they are so expensive.

Horrific Child can be a pretty tough listen because a lot of it is just Mr. Whinster 'dialogue' with special effects, but it does have its moments. I've also heard two somewhat different version of the album and I don't know whats up with that since it's all clearly Massiera material.

Those two compilation LPs are pretty much all solid material aside from a couple really odd ones.

also i'm pretty sure the prodigy sampled 'jingle jungle' for their track ruff in the jungle. if that's the case i'd be very intrigued by liam howlett's vinyl collection.

Sorry to disappoint but I feel I have to admit I only own the reissue on the Maledictus Sound - gave up on getting the original after yonks only to see one of my friends play something from the original a few days later. I don't think it's as hard to score as all that though 'cause it came out in several countries (with different sleeves).
The reissue looks like this

and to muddy the waters further, there was another pressing in Quebec (where it originally came out) as "Revolution 9" w/ the words "freak out total" on the back...

i did a blog post about Tony Roman, the guy who put the record out... i guess Massiera recorded the tapes in France and brought 'em to Monreal where it was released...

http://tetecarre.blogspot.com/2007/06/tony-roman-rip.html

i got an original of this montreal for cheap, 30 or 40 bucks CA... NOW, an original of Chico Magnetic Band, that i need!
