...surely this should never have happened?
Dear cannot sing. Well, OK, he has a very distinctive character but he can't sing in tune and seems to have a range of about half an octave.
He butchered one of my favourite Bowie songs ever.
Stink.
Matthew Dear and his stupid "big hands" have performed the worst live music I've seen all summer so far. Although I've yet to hear it, the idea of a Bowie cover sounds horrible. I wish he'd stick to the buttons and records!
Is the rest of the album any better?
Only heard that one tune on the radio, but both the "tribute albums" this label have done look at least intriguing, line up wise. The Prince one has e.g. D'Angelo, who I'd expect to fare alright, and this Bowie one has Kelley Polar, who I think has the right fruitiness-quotient for Bowie material.
