trying to figure out what to get a very bright 9 year old girl in terms of a good, hopefully both educational and fun, but would settle for just fun, game for mac.

any suggestions? hundreds turn up on a search and a lot of them look total crap...

My eight-year-old son has been playing Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing and Banjo Kazooie on an N64 emulator since he was seven. Games with lots of exploration and puzzle solving are good, especially if the payoffs are new levels or cool new abilities. I believe there's an N64 emulator for the Mac too. He also likes Nanosaur 2: Hatchling on the Mac, which I find a bit dull but which feeds his dinosaur obsession. MonkeyBall-type games are also good for problem-solving/spatial awareness, but can be fiendishly hard. When I was 9 it was Manic Miner, a game I find completely unplayable now (pixel-perfect positioning, split-second timing, instant death if you get it wrong...)
