Is MRK1 the Tony Iommi of Dubstep

limited sound palate, killer headbanging riffs...

His stuff over the last couple of years has been pretty piss poor. But he used to make some really good tracks pre-circa 2006. Raindance, in particular, really stands out in my mind.

I think in a way its interesting to witness the very divergent paths that a lot of the original grime producers/DJs have taken.

To generalise somewhat you've got those that have gone down an aggy wobble dubstep path - Plastician, MRK1, Scandalous Unlimited (saw him play on sat night and it was pretty horrific). Some have got on the funky - Marcus Nasty, Geeneus. Some on bassline - Dexplicit, Cameo (I'm assuming Cameo's still playing mainly bassline on 1Xtra?)

In fact, it'd be interesting to try and do a 'Where are they now? Grime Special'

used to be one of my favourites along with plastician before he went totally dubstep. before he was on the cusp - still grime but dark and industrial enough to cross over to dubstep deejays. now its too much in the latter camp. boring. and a real shame.
